Who Joined – May 11, 1861 – 2nd Virginia Infantry, Company B
According to Author Millard Bushong, these are many of the Jefferson County men who were mustered into Company B of the 2nd Virginia Infantry Regiment (C.S.A.) at Harper’s Ferry, May 11, 1861 and then were fiercely drilled and disciplined by the new commander, Col. Thomas Jackson,who had not yet gotten his famous nickname. A significant number of recruits moved over to a cavalry unit at first opportunity the following spring. Others persevered.
